EDCO Collaborative is offering quality adult education courses to those who live and work in the area of our Bedford, MA location or live or work in our member communities.
Courses all run on Monday evenings from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm starting on Monday, March 16th, 2020.

Come and learn how to make earrings, bracelets, and necklaces using beads, and different types of wire. You will not only learn how to express yourself with these materials but the techniques needed to make pieces that last. Materials are included in the class fee.
This course introduces participants to techniques and concepts, with emphasis on the understanding of its formal language and the fundamentals of artistic expression. Participants will paint from still-life, landscape, and life models from observation. Color theory, linear perspective, compositional structure, figure/ground relationships, visual perception, and spatial concepts will all be emphasized extensively. There will be a focus on research major painting styles and movements in historical context. Students will learn the basics of handling acrylic paints and brushes and explore a variety of techniques (glazing, layering, and others) and the fundamentals of composition, tone and blending colors.
During this introductory course to guitar, participants will learn some rudimentary music knowledge and be able to navigate the entire fretboard quickly and easily. There will be an overview of how to be able to find notes and chords quickly anywhere on the neck to interactively so participants can learn to play music of their choice.
There will be a specific focus on the following: coordination, muscle memory, and hand strength, and strumming patterns, and songs. Developing good habits for continual growth and improvement. This course is geared towards a beginner and Guitars will be available to rent during this course.
Public Speaking 101 – 5 Weeks
In this introductory course, students learn speech communication which emphasizes the practical skill of public speaking, including techniques to lessen speaker anxiety, and the use of visual aids to enhance speaker presentations. The goal of this course is to prepare students for success in typical public speaking situations by researching and planning the basic principles needed for effective speeches.
The class will separate how to speak more effectively in both personal and professional situations. As an interactive program participant, you will be expected to practice in front of an audience and receive constructive feedback with the safety net of having a comfortable learning space and a supportive environment.
The ServSafe® program provides food safety training, exams, and educational materials to foodservice managers. Students can earn the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification, accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-Conference for Food Protection (CFP). It is a nationally recognized certification and is valid for five years. The program blends the latest FDA Food Code, food safety research and years of food sanitation training experience. Students learn to implement essential food safety practices and create a culture of food safety. All content and materials are based on actual job tasks identified by foodservice industry experts. Any organization or business in The Commonwealth of Massachusetts selling food is required to have someone on duty with a ServSafe Certification. The certificate is good for five years.
Family & Special Education
This course will provide parents and guardians with a working understanding of the Special Education Process from making a referral to discharge from services.
- Special focus will be given to:
- Your role as a TEAM member
- School district responsibilities and expertise
- Regulations and best practices
- Understanding special education jargon
- Interpreting test results
- How to effectively advocate for your child
- Building collaborative relationships
- Materials will be provided
This 5-week course will provide participants with current information and best practices for support students with challenging behaviors. The course will also designate time each week to participants discussing student’s behaviors and how to manage it so as to maintain resiliency and a positive outlook when in the midst of challenging behavior.
This historical course focuses on the origins of the U.S. Constitution of 1787 and how the creation of political parties affected how the Constitution was (and is) interpreted by lawmakers, judicial professionals and the members of the Executive Branch. By focusing on the Constitution’s origins, its amendment over the years, and methods of constitutional interpretation participants in this course will practice historical analysis with the hope of creating a new lens on American democracy in the year 2020.
This course seeks to enable participants to:
- Engage in civil discussion and confidently present individual viewpoints of the American political process.
- Understand the importance of the Three Branches of Government and the need to have separate, but equal powers.
- Explain the principles of federalism and how this principle has evolved since the ratification of the Constitution of 1787.
Technology & Innovation
This introductory course will focus on the fundamentals of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) using the Solidworks software. Solidworks is one of the largest computer-aided design (CAD) software and is used globally across numerous industries including manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, defense, medical devices, robotics and automation, consumer products, construction, and many more.
This course will introduce the core concepts and tools used to design and 3D Print Solidworks. By the end of this course, you will understand the fundamentals of 3D parametric design and how the designs are used to 3D print and manufacture. All students will learn to create:
- 3D surface models
- 3D Assemblies
- 3D Drawings Printing
Google is a great free alternative to Microsoft products. If you are using Google Apps at work or at home you may have an idea of the power and collaboration tools behind them. In this Google Apps course, participants will learn the basics of the apps available and the differences between them. Students will learn how to: manage a Gmail account, create Google Docs, organize data in GoogleSheets, create presentations in Google Slides and so much more. Guided by student feedback, we will dive into each application in the online G-Suite and discover how these tools can be utilized.

SAT Prep – Lentz & Lentz
Designed to benefit students of all ability levels, this 30-hour program is divided equally between English and math and covers all facets of the SAT. Class features test-taking techniques, preparation for the essay, practice SAT(s), advanced math and shortcut math, vocabulary development, speed-reading and online downloads for supplemental review. The downloads are extremely helpful to all students, especially those with cognitive and perceptual disabilities.
Extra help at no charge, course materials, and complimentary refresher sessions are included in the tuition. Previous SAT type problems are used in conjunction with our own copyrighted curriculum.
Lentz & Lentz teachers have been specifically trained to teach this program and all of our instructors have a background in teaching. Lentz & Lentz also allows students the flexibility to attend live makeup classes at any of its nearby locations.
